Time-Restricted Eating May Reverse Diabetes & Obesity

Satchin Panda: The obesity epidemic is going
to have a huge social and economic cost. If we can find a simple lifestyle that will not
only prevent but will also reverse obesity and diabetes, it will extend healthy life
span with very little health care spending. When it comes to diet, weight gain, and diabetes,
it’s not just what we eat, but when we eat. In our previous study, we had shown that if
we let mice eat only for 8 or 9 hours a day, those mice are protected from weight gain,
obesity, and diabetes. Amandine Chaix: After the initial discovery
there were a couple of questions. We wanted to know if 8 hours was the magic number to
maintain the beneficial effect of time-restricted feeding as this time-restricted feeding applies
to their modern diet that is both enriched in fat but also artificial sweetness. Satchin Panda: We let mice eat for 8, 9, 10,
12 or 15 hours a day, either high-fat diets or a diet that’s more similar to what we eat
which is moderately rich in fat and sucrose. We also asked, if mice eat only 8 to 9 hours
a day during the weekdays, and on the weekends they can [binge 00:01:36] it, then what happens? We were surprised to find that the benefits
of time restriction persist even if the mice take the weekends off. We were also surprised
to find the obese mice lost body weight, reduced blood sugar level to almost normal level,
and had lower cholesterol. Amandine Chaix: So time-restricted feeding
is efficient with already obese mice, it’s efficient with different diets, and it’s also
efficient with different time limits. Amir Zarrinpar: What is very exciting about
this is that it’s much easier to adopt than most of the lifestyle modifications that people
are recommended in doctors’ offices every day. With this type of therapy you don’t really
have to calorie count. What this really works on is your own biology and letting your body
use its own evolutionary-developed metabolic pathways to shuttle energy appropriately. Satchin Panda: It’s also a powerful therapeutic
way to reduce weight and reverse part of diabetes. Amir Zarrinpar: These findings are very exciting,
but they are in mice. We need to do further experiments to make sure that they also lead
to therapies in humans.

  2. I've done the 383 diet. It's really similar to this.  Eat only after 3 hours after waking up, eat in a 8 hour time limit and don't eat anything 3 hours before you go to sleep.  My cravings were gone the second day I was on this diet, and I've already lost weight.  The whole "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" is what the cereal companies used to make money.  Upon further research, I found out about intermittent fasting and I'm a happy person thanks to the 383 diet.  I'm glad that there is scientific evidence behind my diet. 🙂

It's as though someone threw random words up on the screen, thinking that those of us who use CC wouldn't notice or care? I really was interested in the video but this prevented me from learning anything at all.

  4. It really works! When I followed my instinct to stop eating after 3 o'clock (a.k.a. No Dinner Lifestyle)…My life turned around!!!! I lost weight quickly and gained vitality almost immediately. I have already been low carb since 2011, but as I have gotten older (36yo mom of three)…my body is just fighting me to keep putting on the fat! I did the "no dinner" technique on and off over the years and always had immediate weight loss AND increase vitality & tone almost immediately. I just used it as a tool here and there, and kind of forgot about it after a while. Mostly because I didn't really understand what to call it, or why it worked. Well… I am back on the NO eating between 3pm – 8am, which puts me at an eating window of about 7 hours. I am dropping fat like crazy fast, yet don't feel at all deprived. You are actually less hungry the entire next day. (disclosure: I do have a teaspoon of raw coconut oil in the evenings or before bed, and another at 6:30am to support my adrenals & thyroid gland. Especially since I am a female & fasting affects us differently then men) My goal is to do this Sun-Thursday, and leave Friday and Saturday available for that evening wine & cheese. I still live low carb/high fat, because I am passionate about staying away from processed foods, sugars, and starches. BUT…for someone that couldn't possibly "clean" up their almost perfect diet any more, and was STILL somehow gaining weight…Not eating from 3pm-8am was the magic bullet. And I still get my wine on weekends ;). I would imagine someone on a SAD diet would have even greater life changing results. It would probably spring them into a healthier lifestyle in general, because it seems to trigger wanting more healthful nutrient dense foods. Good luck! I hope they keep this study going. It would seriously change the world if this, seemingly common sense, idea was spread to the world.  Blessings! 

  5. This is SURPRISING and EXCITING! If anyone did similar studies prior to this Salk group, they apparently got little recognition.
     
    One thing that ticks me off in these threads is when people post their personal experience, as if that's a substitute for scientific studies with control groups and hundreds of subjects. "No need to pay attention to the clock; just watch your calories!!" Exactly the opposite of what the study found. GIVE ME A BREAK.

I have been doing time restricted feeding for the last 18 months.  I've combined this with a mostly high quality plant based diet to be consistent wit the finding of Stephen Simpson and others as it pertains to longevity.  I usually eat between about noon and 6 or 7 pm most days.  I rarely feel hungry before noon, and realized that morning eating was more of a habit.  I have black coffee and tea in the a.m.  I don't suffer from low energy and have found my blood work to be very good, if not excellent.  It would be nice to have human studies using various time restricted regimes to help fine tune what we can do.   This has the potential to help many people improve their health and get off drugs.

  7. It's stated that there exists no cure for type 2 diabetes. It's not true. Many type 2 diabetes sufferers have succeeded to get rid of diabetes within 3 weeks by just making use of this natural treatment.

  9. What a baloney. Diabetes is a result of too many acids and poisons in the body, that disrupt pancreas function. The only way to flush them out is by drinking anti-acidic water. Its a no-brainer.   13. Time restricted feeding works great for me…. I stay in a fasted state for about 14 to 16 hours a day and take in all my calories in an 8 to 10 hour eating window. I like to skip breakfast and break the fast in the afternoon. I wake up ever morning in mild ketosis. My Macronutrient Ratio is;
    50% – 60% healthy fat (olive oil, avocado oil, avocados, nuts, whole eggs, lean meats, oily fish)
    20% protein (lean meats, fish, nuts and eggs)
    20% – 30% carbs (plants)

    This diet plan is working great for me right now…it keeps by body fat around 10% and I have a lot of energy to workout. I might change the Macronutrient Ratio down the road but it's working for me now.

I started intermittent fasting last week, I'll skip lunch, I am doing (about to come of it) did! 🙂 a 24 hour fast last night/today, only water I dont feel week, my blood sugar is the lowest I have ever seen it 87! will change up my fasting for work skip break (fast) that way its the longest time of going with out a meal, this fasting stuff is cool. again I dont feel week or ill not sure I want to go past 24 hours…

  17. I was diagnosed last year as prediabetic. 150 fasting glucose level, A1C at 7.0 for the first time in my life. I changed my diet right away and lost 25 lbs and exercised 3 times a week. Cut out land animal meat. Only meat product I ate was fish, seafood, little bit of dairy and eggs. And only ate those a few times a week. 6 months later my fasting level was 93 and A1C at 5.7. Fuck diabetes. Think of this. No poor starving country has an epidemic of type 2 diabetes.

  18. I was reading a magazine which contained a guide towards managing diabetes. Of course like other dietary plans, it can be somewhat complicated and time consuming measuring carbohydrates, calories, etc. Fasting and time restrictions are far simplistic and money savers. I have a eating restrictions between 11pm to 1:30pm with some variations depending on the weekday. Thanks for the upload.

  19. Looking over “Vαnοjο Fivu” (Google it) will help you to recover from diabetic issues and get a healthy lifestyle. My has been using this plan conscientiously for more than 45 days. He has been reliant to insulin for several years in his six year long struggle against type 2 diabetes. Since reading through this program and also adhering to the program he`s eating better everyday & everyday…

  20. Lovely Video! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you considered – Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (just google it)? It is a great one of a kind product for reversing diabetes minus the headache. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my friend at last got astronomical success with it.

  21. I have been doing 17/7 for about 2 weeks, trying to get rid of diabetes and it is working., my 7 day average is 116. I’m so glad to see these low numbers. I haven’t seen much change in the weight yet but I know that will come soon. I was wondering if this could get rid of the sugar permanently, and how would I know it’s gone for good. I’m not having a problem doing this, I drink black coffee and distilled water with ACV and a little sea salt so as not to break my fast. And it does take away hunger. One day I even went 22 hours. I am so thankful for all the information on UTUBE that helped me. I’m still on my meds, but I’m hoping that one day I’ll be able to stop them. Any information from a former diabetic would be appreciated.
