Diarrhea occurs when the digestive system is not functioning properly, resulting in
frequent loose or watery stools three or more times a day. The main causes of diarrhea are
viral infections, bacterial infections, consumption of contaminated food and water, anxiety, food
intolerance, frequent urination, excessive sweating, high fever, vomiting and irritable
bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. You can combat diarrhea with a variety
of natural home remedies to fight infection and provide relief of symptoms. 1. Yogurt
Yogurt, especially the one with live cultures of bacteria such as Lactobacillus acidophilus
and Bifidobacterium is a good home remedy for diarrhea. These live cultures help restore the good
bacteria in the gut and destroy the bad bacteria that cause diarrhea. 2. Ginger
Ginger is used in the treatment of food poisoning and can also help get rid of cramps and abdominal
pain. Grate a small piece of ginger and add a teaspoon
of honey. Eat mixture to promote the release of gastric juice and enhance digestion. Avoid
drinking water immediately after eating. You can also drink ginger tea two to three
times a day to cure diarrhea. Cut a small piece of ginger and add to a cup of water.
Boil the water for a few minutes, strain and add a little honey before drinking. If fresh
ginger is not available, you can use ginger powder from your spice rack. 3. Apple cider vinegar
Another effective home remedy for diarrhea is apple cider vinegar. It acts as an effective
agent against bacteria that cause diarrhea. Add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a
glass of water. Drink the solution once or twice a day until
diarrhea stops. 4. Bananas
When it comes to diarrhea, it is recommended to eat ripe bananas due to its high content
of pectin. Pectin is a water-soluble fiber that helps
reduce diarrhea. Bananas are also rich in potassium, an electrolyte that is compatible
with a number of vital functions in the body. Eat some ripe bananas a day until diarrhea
stops. 5. Chamomile tea
Chamomile has antispasmodic properties that may provide relief from abdominal pains that
accompany stomach disorders like diarrhea. It is also useful in reducing intestinal inflammation. Make chamomile tea by adding a tablespoon
of chamomile flowers and a teaspoon of mint leaves in a cup of boiling water for 10 minutes.
Strain and drink the tea several times a day. You can also drink green tea to help your
digestive function properly. 6. Fenugreek seeds
Fenugreek seeds are highly recommended for the treatment of diarrhea due to its high
content of mucilage. The mucilage provides the strong antidiarrheal effect. Chew a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds along with
a spoonful of yogurt. Alternatively, half teaspoon fenugreek seeds
and toasted cumin seeds combined add two tablespoons of yogurt and mix well. Consume this mixture
three times a day for quick relief of diarrhea. 7. White Rice
White rice is one of the recommended places to eat soft foods during diarrhea because
it is easy to digest. In addition, it can help reduce the amount of stool by adding
bulk to the stool. Eat small amounts of white rice (without any
added sauces and spices). Gradually increase the amount of rice as their diarrhea improves. 8. Carrot soup
Carrot soup is a food of high volume and is believed to have ant dyspeptic effects. Carrot
soup is especially good for children recovering from diarrhea because it provides essential
nutrients lost during diarrhea. Wash, scrap and finely chop 500 g of carrots.
You have to pressure cook carrots with a little over half cup of water for about 15 minutes.
Drain fluid. Add a little salt to taste.
Eat this fresh soup daily for a few days when suffering from diarrhea.
