TAKE A BREAK FROM TECHNOLOGY AND LOOK AROUND THE ROOM EVERY 20 MINUTES. 800,000 PEOPLE DIE FROM HEART DISEASE EVERY YEAR. THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION IS RELEASED STATISTICS ON HEART DISEASE AND STROKE IN THE UNITED STATES. THE NEWS IS NOT SO GOOD. DR. KEVIN CAMPBELL WHAT ARE THE RISK FACTORS? THE RISK FACTORS ARE DIABETES, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, HIGH CHOLESTEROL, SMOKING, OH OBESITY, MALE GENDER AND A FAMILY HISTORY OF HEART DISEASE. SOME YOU CAN’T CONTROL, THEY ARE GENETIC AND FAMILY HISTORY. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND MODIFY THEM. THE RATES OF DEATH FROM HEART DISEASE REMAINED CONSTANT OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. AFTER REALLY MAKING PROGRESS, A DECADE AGO. THE LACEST SHOW US DEATHS FROM HEART FAILURE, WHEN THE MUSCLE NO LONGER PUMPS, ARE ON THE RISE. HEART FAILURE DEATHS WILL RISE BY 46% BY THE YEAR 2030 UNLESS WE MAKE REAL CHANGES NOW. ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE, HEART ATTACKS STRIKE ABOUT 800,000 PEOPLE IN THE U.S. EVERY YEAR, KILL ABOUT 114,000. THIS UPDATE FOUND SIMILAR NUMBERS FOR STROKE AS WELL. WHAT CAN WE DO TO REDUCE DEATH RATES FROM HEART DISEASE. ONE THING THIS UPDATE TOLD US, WE ARE GETTING MORE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY INCREASED BY 7% FROM 98 TO 2015, THE BEST THING WE CAN DO IS MAKE SURE IF YOU HAVE A RISK FACTOR, YOU WORK TO MODIFY IT, CONTROL YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE AND CHOLESTEROL, MANAGE DIABETES, GET EXERCISE AND EAT A HEART HEALTHY DIET.
